Pocketed Vs. Bonnell Spring Mattresses

Pocketed Spring mattresses are a newer and a more superior type of spring mattress. In a Pocketed spring mattress, the springs are wrapped inside an individual fabric case. Automated machines coil the wires and seal the coil inside the fabric encasement.

Once wrapped, these individual springs are attached to each other to maintain the shape of the mattress. Since only the fabric encasement is attached, the coils inside can move independently of the adjacent springs.

Pocketed spring mattresses are superior to other mattress types due to “zero motion transfer.” This means you can make movements without causing the mattress to wiggle and jiggle. This lets you turn on your side without causing ripples of mattress movements or disturbing your partner.


Bonnell Spring:

Bonnel Spring is the oldest spring type technology and is currently widely used in the entry-level spring mattresses. Bonnell springs are hourglass-shaped, and the ends of the wire are knotted or wrapped around the top and bottom circular portion of the coil and self-tied.

All the individual spring are then tied together using spring wire, and the completed structure is reinforced with a strong border wire to retain shape.

  • Bonnell spring mattress owners often complain of the rigid border wire being felt. This happens when sufficient cushioning has not been used in the mattress. No border wire is used in Pocket Spring mattresses.

Study Reveals That Lack of Sleep Can Lead to Errors in Memory

A new study by researchers at Michigan State University and the University of California, Irvine, has found that lack of sleep can lead to errors in memory.

“We found memory distortion is greater after sleep deprivation,” said Kimberly Fenn, MSU associate professor of psychology and co-investigator of the study. “And people are getting less sleep each night than they ever have.”

Published online in the journal Psychological Sciencelast month, the study found that participants kept awake for 24 hours—and even those who had five hours or fewer of sleep—were more likely to mix up event details than those who were well-rested. The study, conducted on both campuses, used simulated burglaries shown in a series of images to test the subjects’ memories.

“People who repeatedly get low amounts of sleep every night could be more prone in the long run to develop these forms of memory distortion,” Fenn said. “It’s not just a full night of sleep deprivation that puts them at risk.”



Study Shows That Exercise can Reduce insomnia

“There has been more and more research in the last decade showing exercise can reduce insomnia,” says Kelly Glazer Baron, clinical psychologist at Rush University in Chicago in a May 30 article on “In one study we did, for example, older women suffering from insomnia said their sleep improved from poor to good when they exercised. They had more energy and were less depressed.”

Sleep researcher Shawn Youngstedt at Arizona State University in Tempe concurred about the benefits of working out over pharmaceuticals. “It’s less expensive, healthier and just as easy to exercise,” he says. “And there’s an added bonus: Research suggests those who are physically active have a lower risk of developing insomnia in the first place.”
